Maxine Hayes Freeland Memorial Trophy
The Maxine Hayes Freeland Memorial Trophy is presented to the Juvenile Girls Champion in honor of Mrs. Freeland and her contributions and support to young skaters. This trophy was established in 2007. Mrs. Freeland passed away on December 20th, 2006. Mrs. Freeland loved skating and always helped and supported skaters. Her husband, James Freeland, built several rinks in North Carolina for Mrs. Freeland to be close to her passion. The last rink was in Hillsborough in the Daniel Boone Village near Interstate 85 on Churton Street. The rink was started about 1972. A second full size surface was added about 1980. Mrs. Freeland ran the rinks until 1989. The rinks finally closed in 1995 when the Triangle SportsPlex opened. There are still many skaters locally that have become very involved with the sport that Mrs. Freeland had such passion for. Many skaters have been touched and enriched by her care and support.
Thank you, Mrs. Freeland!
The trophy is sponsored by Daniel Boone Limited and presented by the Central Carolina Skating Club each year at the Central Carolina Skating Classic.

The Ruth and Howard Jackson Trophy
The Ruth and Howard Jackson Trophy is given each year to the Intermediate Ladies Short Program Champion in honor of two US Figure Skating judges that were very influential and supportive of skaters in the central North Carolina area. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have both passed away, but their legacy lives on. They judged at most test sessions in North Carolina since the late 1970’s. The Jacksons were influential in starting the figure skating portion of the State Games of North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were involved in skating even at the Olympic level. They were volunteers in Lake Placid for the 1980 Olympics. They spent a great deal of their lives helping to promote skating and skaters. Mrs. Jackson was even chair of the Sanctions and Eligibility committee with US Figure Skating for several years. The Jacksons were members of the Central Carolina Skating Club during their last five years in the sport. They judged at competitions and test sessions for us on a regular basis. The trophy was established in 2004 and is presented annually by the Central Carolina Skating Club at the Central Carolina Skating Classic.
